Why History Matters...

Preserving our past establishes roots and community pride. It teaches, inspires, makes our communities more attractive, and encourages travel and tourism. Historic places and things are assets for economic development. Saving them is smart. And, as John Steinbeck asked in The Grapes of Wrath, “How will we know it's us without our past?”

Steve Berry and his wife, Elizabeth,

travel the world both researching and promoting his books. One comment they hear repeatedly concerns the dwindling supply of funds available to preserve our heritage.  So Steve and Elizabeth launched History Matters to assist communities around the world with restoration and preservation.

What if these rarities are not preserved?

The answer is clear.  Those links to our past will be irretrievably broken.  Money for historic preservation and conservation is one of the first things cut from both governments’ and individuals’ budgets.  Steve and Elizabeth thought it was time to come up with an innovative way to raise money.

That’s what History Matters is all about.

News & Events

Our work with History Matters was greatly affected by the pandemic. For 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, there were no new fundraisers. But we are looking to get back out there and raise some money for historic preservation. We are currently working on the schedule for 2024 and 2025. If you have a project proposal, please contact us here.
